Between January 1, 2025, and January 31, 2025, more than 750 brand drugs had price increases, with an average increase of 6% (median, 4.5%), and approximately 30 generic drugs had price increases, with an average increase of 5.54% (median, 4.5%), based on wholesale acquisition cost (WAC). In comparison, the annual inflation rate in the United States is currently 3%.
Most drug price increases were between 2% and 4%, with the majority being single-source brand, self-administered, pharmacy-benefit products. Over 400 specialty brand drugs, including both self-administered and professionally administered products, had price increases. This marks a shift downward from the 4%–6% range observed in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, over 83% of price increases in January 2025 remained at or below 6%, reflecting a trend of stabilization compared to previous years. Read the report to find out more.
